The McCalmans

MOUNT AND GO

Trad

NOTELINE

My Father married me ower young

To an old carl baith bald and done

His love was done but mine new-sprung

So I'll hie to the hills wi' ma laddie-o

Come bonny laddie mount and go,

Hey bonnie laddie mount and go,

Come bonny laddie mount and go,

Mount and I'll gang wi' ye-o.

I would leave my auld peat stack,

So would I my auld kail yaird,

So would I my auld bald Laird

And I'd hie to the hills wi' ma laddie-o.

When the auld carl lay asleep,

Out of the bed she quick did creep,

The keys of the cabin she did keep,

She's awa to the hills wi' her laddie-o,

When the auld carl woke in the ha'

The sheets were cauld and she was awa,

Wi' the weight o' herself in gold and a',

She's awa to the hills wi' her laddie-o.

He's gone down to yon sea shore,

Spiered at the ships that were there before,

Asked of the captain if she's been there,

Or if any of the sailors saw her-o.

As she sailed out ower yon sea,

She drank a toast quite merrily,

Flung her wine glass intae the sea,

For the love she had for her laddie-o.

When she's landed ower yon lea,

She's lady o' fifty ploughs and three,

Lady o' fifty ploughs and three,

And well she loves her laddie-o.
